SET UP FLOW COMPUTERS IN COMBINATION WITH A PROLINX DEVICE

This How To explains how you can set up one or more flow computers when a ProLinx device for HART master is also present. The flow computer’s HART master protocol is acting such that the flow computer is either listening or an active sender. When two flow computers are connected in a HART loop simultaneously (according to Figure 1 below; measurement should be set to 0-5 V input voltage), only one of the connected flow computers sends commands, whereas all the others listen to the transmitter replies on this command signal.

All flow computers switch to listen mode, when there is also a ProLinx device present, given that they are configure correctly. Configuration Flow computers For the flow computer setup, it is important to make sure that the number of variable values that are expected, equals the number of process values that are asked for by the ProLinx device. The latter equals the number of process values supplied by the HART transmitter. For example, if the transmitter supplies four process values, the ProLinx device will ask for them all, whereas three process values will be asked for whenever only three are supplied. This setup can be achieved by choosing the correct HART communication sheet in the flow computer’s configuration. Currently, there are different HART communication sheets available for 1, 3, or 4 process values.

Configuration ProLinx device The ProLinx device can be configured with a tool that comes with the device (note that it can also be downloaded from the vendor’s website). For each port that is shared with the flow computers, the following settings must be applied (note that here Port 0 is mentioned, whereas in practice this may be one of the other ports).

Note that the max device count is set to 1. Currently, no tests have been executed with more devices connected to the same HART channel.
